January 2009

I have been working hard on the new turbine tower for the last couple of months.
Last night, I finally had a chance to play with the turbine again.
I added a kill-switch to the control panel and wanted to check it out.
It worked great. As soon as the switch is flipped, the turbine stops spinning.
You can see it at work in the following video.

Finally! I got the new turbine flying on the new tower.
It was too heavy to raise by hand, but with a new winch installed, it became fairly easy.

It is now just a matter of connecting everything (which only takes a couple of minutes) and up she goes.
So February 9th was the big day. The new turbine on the new tower.
Here are some visuals to enjoy.

It was a nice day with a calm steady breeze. My windmeter is not up right now so I don't have exact data.
But my ampmeter was showing consistently about 5 amps. There was really no strong increase in windspeed,
so that was as high as it went.
There was a noticeable wobble in the tail which was more than likely caused by the props being off balance.
It did seek the wind nicely though.
I did take it down the same day in order to beef up the dump load and to make some modifications.
The hub needs to be made out of steel, and the cable needs to be directed into the pipe of the tower.
